Jack arrived for work early the next morning, he’d not slept very well the night before as he’d been trying to find a way of telling Hart he was taking time off without letting on why.

He noticed a box on his desk that he was sure hadn’t been there when he left the previous night.  He opened it and found a pair of cufflinks in the shape of spitfires.  He was curious to where they’d come from.  A second later his silent question was answered.

“Good morning Jack.  I see you’ve found the gift I left for you.”

“Why John?  Why are you buying me presents?”

“It’s an apology really, I’ve been a bit of a shit these last couple of days, and you were right.”

“Right about what?”

“That I should leave my personal life at home.  We’ve got a business to run and I’m supposed to be your partner....business partner.”  He quickly added that last comment so Jack wouldn’t suspect anything.

“I’m pleased to see you’ve come to your senses over us, but I can’t accept these, it wouldn’t be right.”

“Please Jack, they go so well with your coat, I....I promise I won’t push you any further about....about us.  I can see now I need to move on.  I’m sorry Jack.”

“But these?”

“Please Jack, just accept them as a gift from a friend.”

“It goes against my better judgement, but ok, thank you.  Now have a seat I’ve got a proposition for you.”

“Sounds intriguing Jack.”  Hart was wondering what Jack had planned, he hoped he wasn’t making good his threat from last night, about buying him out.

“John, you know we’ve been working flat out these last few months, and you’ve told me on several occasions that I should take some time off....well that’s just what I’m going to do.”

“But what am I going to do?”

“What you’ve wanted to do for a long time.  Run the business for two weeks.  You always said you could do it.  So now’s your chance to prove those four accounts that were bogus were just a mistake and a thing of the past.  I’m leaving you to make the decisions.  I’m going to have the two weeks for myself and I don’t want disturbing.  You make the decisions, prove to me that you can do what you say.”

“But Jack what if....”

“No what if’s John.  I’m going away for two weeks and don’t want to be disturbed.”

“What about the Radio?”

“Oh I’ll still be at the radio, I’m not leaving town, there’s just something else I want to do for a while.”

“Great....I think.  What’s so important?”

“A friend needs a helping hand and I’ve offered my services.”

“Do I know this friend?”

“No, and I’m not going into any more detail, but you’ve said you can cope, just prove it to me.”

“I won’t let you down Jack, I promise.  When are you going?”

“At the end of today.  I’ve promised my friend I’d be there to help him.”

So Jack, it’s a him!  I’m going to find out what you’re up to, this will give me time to put my plan together to win you back.  Those cufflinks are just the start.  I’m still going to find out about this Ianto Jones.  Wait....this sudden decision to take time off has only come up since you first mentioned Jones.  Has it got something to do with him Jack?  He’s not going to have you, I’ll make sure of that.

“John....John, you ok?”

“What....sorry, yeah I’m fine.  Thank you for believing in me, I won’t let you down, I promise.”

“Good, because I want a business to come back to.”  Jack smiled at him and Hart took this as a hint he should leave.  He’d bide his time, these next two weeks would come in handy.

Jack watched as Hart left his office.  He looked at the cufflinks, maybe he was trying to move on.  Time would tell.  He would still have to watch what he said and did when they were both at the hospital.  But, he smiled, Ianto Jones you’re going to have my full attention.

Ianto looked at the clock, 3.30pm, he’d been told that he wasn’t going to physio today they’d take things carefully, he still had his stitches in and they didn’t want to burst them.  He was grateful for that, he wanted to go home but he wanted to be able to see more of Jack.

As he thought of Jack he remembered the offer he’d made last night about staying at his.  He’d wanted to shout yes straight away but he didn’t want to sound too eager.  He’d tell Jack tonight he’d take up the offer on the condition that he would find somewhere of his own and not be a burden to Jack.  He knew for certain that he could never live back at the apartment, not now she’d....stop it Yan, mmm he definitely liked the sound of that especially as it came from Jack.  Stop thinking of her she’s in the past, you’ve got other important things to think about.  Jack’s going to be here in a few hours.  He smiled to himself just as Owen walked onto his ward.

“Afternoon Doctor Harper.”

“Afternoon Ianto.  I was going to ask how you’re feeling, but I can see you’re well on the way to a full recovery.”

“Yep, and I’ve got you and Jack to thank for that.”

“Just doing my job Ianto.  Anyway how are things with you two?  He’s getting to be a regular visitor.”

“Yeah, I like him and he makes me laugh and....”  Ianto wasn’t sure he should say anything more.

“And what?”

“Oh....erm....Jack’s taking two weeks off work and going to help me with my physio.”

“That’s good isn’t it?”

“I think so.  I’ve only known him for a couple of days but he makes me laugh.  Something I realised I hadn’t done for a long time.”

“I’m sorry things haven’t worked out for you and your girlfriend, but time is a healer and no doubt Jack will be able to take your mind off things.”

“Mmmm, oh yeah!”  Ianto smiled and thought back to Jack’s kiss the previous night.

“Ianto you ok?”  Owen saw something flash across Ianto’s face as he smiled.

“What...oh sorry....yeah, I’m fine.  I was just thinking about something Jack said last night.”

“Oh want to tell me or is it personal?”

“Doc you’re his good friend, I can see that.  Well Lisa’s moved Adam into my apartment, I can’t go back, so Jack’s offered me his spare room.”

“Oh, and is that ok with you?  Have you made a decision?”

“I hadn’t, but I’ve been thinking I’ll take him up on the offer.”

Owen saw something else in this young man’s eyes.  It was the same thing he saw when Tosh looked at him.  “Right Mr Jones, let’s check those stitches shall we?  We need you back on your feet, so you can get out of here and back to some sort of normality.”

“Thanks Doc.  Erm....can I ask you something?”

“Would it be ok if I sat out of bed tonight when Jack comes?  He must think I’m always in bed.”

“Hey no problem, what time is he coming?”

“He said he’ll pop up after he’s made sure everything’s ok with the radio.  So I expect it’ll be about 6.30.  I’ve even been thinking I’d like to have a go at this radio stuff too.  Have you done it?”

“No but Tosh, my girlfriend, she does and really enjoys it.”

“Great, thanks for that.  I’d also like to be able to have a go at getting in the chair on my own.  I’ve got to start doing things for myself.”

“We are eager today, but Ok, I’ll make sure there’s a nurse watching, just in case.”

“Thanks Doc.”

Owen realised then that Jack was having a positive effect on this young man.  He hoped that Jack was doing the right thing, and he hoped Hart wouldn’t cause problems for them, he knew what he was like.

“Right Ianto, I’ve got to finish my rounds.  I’m taking Tosh out for a meal tonight, it’s our anniversary and if I’m not ready on time she’ll kill me.”

They both laughed.  Owen noticed again how good looking Ianto was when he smiled.  I hope you know what you’re doing Jack?  “I’ll see you tomorrow Ianto.  Things will get better.”

“Yeah, I know, thanks.”

He left then to find Tosh.  He’d have to be careful around Hart, he didn’t want anything to spoil this developing friendship between his best friend and this young man.

Ianto watched Owen leave.  He looked at the clock, he had a couple of hours before Jack arrived.  He looked in the mirror.  Ianto Jones you look like....well I don’t know what you look like.  You need a shave and your hair!  He rang the bell for a nurse and when she appeared he explained what he wanted and she thought it was a good idea as it would make him feel better.  He didn’t want to admit to her that he wanted to look good for when Jack arrived.

Jack looked at his watch.  He had a couple of hours before he saw Ianto.  Just thinking of the young man brought a smile to his face.  He thought back to the previous night when he’d thought he’d overstepped the mark with the kiss, but was pleasantly surprised when Ianto had pulled him back for another.  He brushed a finger over his lips.  Mmmm Jack, be careful, don’t push things too quickly.  He looked at his watch again, this was ridiculous, he wasn’t concentrating on his work.  He had to get out, get home, he needed to see Ianto and he needed a break from work.  He decided there and then, he went to find Hart.

“John, I’ve had it for the day.  The business is in your hands, I’m off.  I’ll see you back here in two weeks.”  With that he left, smiling at the prospect of spending two weeks with Ianto.

Hart was stunned at the sudden departure of his partner.  He managed to shout a goodbye and have a good break before Jack left the offices.  Right John, you’ve got a lot of work to do.  He smiled to himself, he was going to find out who this Ianto Jones was.

Jack arrived at the hospital earlier than normal.  Friday nights were Gray, Gavin and Gareth’s night.  The three G’s as they’d come to be known.  It was a standing joke with everyone at the station and they’d gone along with it.  Jack left Gavin a note, Gavin was the lead presenter for a Friday night.  Gav, I’m at the hospital, just not going to be in the studio till much later.  Make sure things are ok.  If you have any problems ring ward C1, I’m visiting a friend.  Thanks, Captain Jack.

He left the note on stuck to the computer and bounded up to the ward.  He’d decided to keep his coat on, hadn’t Ianto said he’d looked good in it?

He arrived at the entrance to Ianto’s ward and saw him sat in the chair.  Their eyes met and they both smiled.  Jack felt something stir below the waist and pulled his coat around so Ianto didn’t see.

“Evening Yan, how’re you feeling today, you look good.”

“Thank you Jack, I feel a lot better.  I’ve not had any physio, they didn’t want me to undo Doc Harper’s handiwork.”

The two men smiled.

Ianto felt something stir below his waist and pulled his dressing gown tighter around himself.  God Jack you’re hot, I’ve never felt like this before.

“Yan, you ok?”

“What....erm, yeah I’m good, why?”

“You looked miles away.”

“I was just thinking about what you said last night.”

“What about last night?”

“Your spare room.  I’ve made a decision.  If the offer is still there I’d like to take you up on it.”

Jack grinned, “yep the offers still there, and that’s great.”  He pulled up a chair and sat in front of Ianto.  He so wanted to kiss the gorgeous man but was afraid.

“Is that all you’re going to say?”

“Why, what do you want me to say?”

“Well after what you did last night, I thought....”

Ianto didn’t get to say anything else, Jack had covered his mouth with his own.  Not caring what the others in the ward thought.  He kissed him passionately, Ianto responded.
